Congratulations to our ED, Sheba Williams for joining Mayor Stoney’s Task Force on Reimagining Public Safety

After careful consideration and consultation with the community that we serve, our Executive Director, Sheba Williams, has accepted a position on Mayor Levar Stoney's Reimagining Public Safety Task Force. The decision to join was not taken lightly, as our work over the past 5 years has been directly related to public safety and justice work for those directly impacted by overpolicing, oversentencing, overcharging and mass incarceration. There was some opposition to joining the task force but there was much more support from those we serve. Many people that we serve are on the receiving end of injustice, and that is where our commitment as an organization lies. We will continue to welcome input from the community that we serve.

Help Save Those With Justice Involvement From Evictions

We Need Your Help!

Effective June 28, 2020, Governor Northam has declined to extend the rent moratorium in our state. Evictions will resume on June 29, 2020. There were 1,900 evictions on file prior to the rent moratorium being lifted. Our focus is now shifting to saving those who have a criminal records from eviction. Why those with a criminal record? Because of all of the collateral consequences of a conviction and the harsh and continuous punishment for a past conviction, if you couple a past record with an eviction, it is near impossible to find suitable housing.
